Instructions to a successful day at the beach:

After a slow German breakfast with fresh bread rolls from the bakery, some delicious local yogurt with fresh raspberries, a soft boiled egg and a pot of caffeine of your choice, you slather some sunscreen on and hop into your bathing suit. Pack some towels, kites, water bottles and snacks and of you pedal towards the shore - in this case a short mile.

A few minutes later, you park your bike with all the other bikes...

... and walk down the wooden board walk .

You look at all the 'Strandkörbe' (literally beach baskets)...

... and decide to rent one as well. We got a yellow one with the number 45. We really wanted a blue one, but then again, yellow is easy to find and it was front row view- more important.

You play around in the sand until it get's too hot and you jump into the salty waves. You take the fear of waves out of the children by inventing wave games, like assigning each wave a Weasley (HP) name based on character and temperament.

You start building sand structures...

...look over the wide expanse...

... and decide to fly a stunt kite in loops, circles and crazy maneuvers.

When it has been a few hours, you take a break from the beach and say good-bye to Emma (all German seagulls are called by that name)...

...and bike to the center of the village,

where you can have some yummy Fish'n' Chips.

And before the day is over, another little bike trip to see the sunset gives the day a lovely finish.
